The story begins with a young American man flying overseas to hunt rhinos in Africa with his estranged girlfriend who is living in Paris. As the background of the story is revealed, we learn that his search of her may not be as sincere and untainted as he had led everyone to believe. Upon arriving in Paris, the young man encounters Teen, a lonely, despondent girl in need of instant physical comfort (sex) who offers to help in the search, only to discover that the girlfriend, Lola, is working as a stripper in Budapest with her new "manager," played by a magnificently eerie Nick Cave. After a fall out with Teen, the boy makes his way to Budapest and tracks Lola down in a prostitution house where he confronts her (and his own feelings) in a chilling, choreographed climax. Genre: Drama Cast Overview: David Field Mike Bishop Chris DeRose Nick Cave ... | | Ghosts Of The Civil Dead is a startling and powerful film set entirely within the confines of a maximum security prison - a new generation prison painted in play school colours and resembling a supermarket - it goes beyond traditional prison themes of good and evil to draw a frightening allegorical portrait of the nature and organisation of our society. Central Industrial Prison is located in the middle of a desert, it's been locked down - confinement of all prisoners to their cells - following an outbreak of violence. The film flahes back to trace the events that lead to the lock down, allowing us to see the truth of the system. | | "Himmel über Berlin, Der" (1987) | | | Directed By: Wim Wenders Writing Credits: Wim Wenders, Peter Handke Genre: Drama Cast Overview: Bruno Ganz Solveig Dommartin Otto Sander Curt Bois Peter Falk Nick Cave ... | | The sky over Wenders' war-scarred Berlin is full of gentle, trenchcoated angels who listen to the tortured thoughts of mortals and try to comfort them. One, Damiel (Bruno Ganz), wishes to become mortal after falling in love with a beautiful trapeze artist, Marion (Solveig Dommartin). Peter Falk, as himself, assists in the transformation by explaining the simple joys of a human experience, such as the sublime combination of coffee and cigarettes. Told from the angel's point of view, the film is shot in black and white, blossoming into color only when the angels perceive the realities of humankind. Ultimately, Damiel determines that he must experience humanity in full, and breaks through in to the real world to pursue a life with Marion. A hugely acclaimed and multi-award winning movie including Best Director for Wenders at Cannes 1987; which was remade in 1998 into City of Angels starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan. | |
