Icelandic theater group Vesturport has reached an agreement with Australian singer-songwriter Nick Cave and his band, The Bad Seeds, on recording and publishing the music from three of the group’s plays. Two of the pieces have already been staged, “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka and “Woyzech” by Georg Büchner, to which Cave wrote the music, Morgunbladid reports.
The third, “Faust” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, is scheduled to premiere in Iceland next fall and afterwards tour the world. Cave will also write the music to that play, which will be some sort of a rock opera, and participate in the dramatization of the play along with the director, Gísli Örn Gardarsson.
“We’re going to make a brand new ‘Faust’ only based on the legend of the man who sold his soul to the devil,” Gardarsson said, explaining that the play will only be loosely based on Goethe’s work. Cave and The Bad Seeds plan to release the music to all three pieces at once, but it is not yet clear when it will appear on the market.
