Nick
Cave talking about "The Boatman's Call"

February
02,1997 - "I'm interested in writing songs that mean something to me and will
continue to mean something to me," he says. "The 'Murder Ballads' LP has its
meaning to me in that Kylie (Minogue) was involved in it and Polly (Harvey) was involved
in it... it was an incredible time and a lot of my dreams were realised in the making of
that record, but there's no emotional commitment to those songs. They're kind of
meaningless to me in a way. They're enjoyable to listen to and they're funny - but they
don't really mean that much to me, whereas 'The Boatman's Call' does."
